The best credit card for someone with poor credit depends a great deal on just how poor the credit score is. A low credit score does not always reflect bad credit. A credit report for a person just beginning to build a credit history can have a low credit score as well.
Many credit card issuers now offer tiered credit cards. Using tiers in this manner allows the credit card companies to offer different interest rates based on a broader range of credit scores. That, of course, enables more people to qualify. However, persons with really bad credit probably will not qualify for any of the tiers. That brings up another area of cards designed especially for persons with bad or limited credit.
Two types of cards are available: secured credit cards and prepaid debit cards. Please understand that prepaid debit cards are also called prepaid credit cards even though there is actually no credit being extended.
There is a complete article on this site that will provide more information about Prepaid Credit Cards, including the issuers who make them available.
You can see what poor credit credit cards are available on our Prepaid Credit Cards page and our Secured Credit Cards page.
